Tuesday's prep highlights: Central, Centennial share volleyball title

Champaign Central 2, Normal Community 1. Mia McDonald had 17 assists for the visiting Maroons in their 18-25, 25-15, 25-22 victory. Jaelyn Westfield added eight kills, and Maddie LeGrande chipped in with seven kills. With the victory, Central (27-7, 7-1) tied for the Big 12 Conference title with Centennial. It is the Maroons’ first league title in 13 years.

Centennial 2, Normal West 1. Maddie Weldon had 20 assists and Paulina Nottingham added 14 in the host Chargers’ 25-22, 20-25, 25-12 Big 12 victory. Rachel Jones contributed seven kills. Centennial finished 30-4, 7-1.

Bloomington 2, Urbana 0. Alayna Jackson had four kills and Kelsea Bishop tallied six digs for the visiting Tigers in their 25-10, 25-14 loss.

B-H 2, Salt Fork 0. Taylor Ellis had 13 assists for visiting Bismarck-Henning in its 25-20, 25-16 victory. Maranda Witty added six digs and seven kills, and Morgan Gerbsch had 11 digs. Kalyn Learnard posted six digs and six assists for the Storm, which received seven kills from emilie mcfadden.

Rantoul 2, Pontiac 1. ChaQuera Cross had 23 digs for the visiting Eagles, who received 18 assists from Taylor Wood, 12 kills from Allison Carver and eight blocks from Hannah Wascher in their 21-25, 28-26, 25-16 victory.

At McLean County/HOIC tourney. Olivia Heffernan had 12 kills for Fisher in its 25-20, 25-17 loss to Lexington in a first-round match. Allyson Barnes had four digs for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley in its 25-9, 25-9 loss to El-Paso Gridley. Jessica Schrock had seven kills and Emily Zelhart 19 assists for Blue Ridge in its 25-19, 23-25, 15-8 victory against LeRoy. The Panthers received 14 digs from Natalie Pliura. Lauren Russell contributed five kills, six digs and nine assists, and Elise Morgan had six kills. Taylor Hastings had 16 digs for Ridgeview in its 25-13, 25-9 loss to Fieldcrest.
In second-round matches, top-seeded Deer Creek Mackinaw defeated Blue Ridge 25-17, 25-13. The Knights got 12 assists from Zelhart.

Shiloh 2, Okaw Valley 0. Lauren Moses had six kills and five digs for the host Raiders in their 25-10, 25-21 victory. Deborah Pryle added six digs in the victory.

Tri-County 2, Bement 0. Sabrina Hinton had seven blocks and five digs in the Bulldogs’ 25-8, 25-14 road loss.

M-S 2, Eureka 1. Mason Moore had 12 assists for host Mahomet-Seymour in its 25-22,22-25, 25-15 victory on Senior Night. Elise Dahlke posted six kills, and Sirena Woo had 13 digs. Maddie See had seven blocks.

St. Teresa 2, Sullivan 0. Emily Neuhauser had 11 kills, four digs and one block for the Redskins in their 25-19, 26-24 loss. Haylie Payton added 17 digs.

Chrisman 2, Westville 1. Kelsey Potter had eight digs and three kills for the Cardinals in their 25-19, 18-25, 25-17 victory. Brett Bishop contributed six kills and two blocks for Chrisman, which got 19 assists and four digs from Dana Mitchell.

Monticello 2, Unity 1. Elise Pontious had 25 assists for the visiting Sages in their 24-26, 25-21, 25-18 victory. Bailey Reifsteck had 18 assists and McKenzie Martin had seven kills for the Rockets.

Hoopeston Area 2, Armstrong-Potomac 1. Morgan Zindars recorded a double-double (20 digs, 14 assists) for the host Trojans, who got 12 digs from Rachel Miles and 10 kills and six blocks from Erika Sieberns in their 19-25, 26-24, 28-26 loss.

In swimming & diving

At Urbana. Katherine Penwell won the 200-yard individual medley and the 500 freestyle, leading Champaign Central to the Twin City championship at the Urbana Indoor Aquatic Center.
Penwell was clocked in 2 minutes, 24.62 seconds in the 200 IM and 5:33.01 in the 500 free.
Urbana received two wins from Gabi Rajic (50 free and 100 back).
