WINNETKA — Jon Delzell of Danville and a Champaign Central relay turned in the area’s highest finishes Friday in the preliminary round of the IHSA boys’ swimming and diving state meet.
Delzell placed 30th in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.11 seconds. The senior also was 39th in the 100 freestyle in 48.49.
Central’s 200 freestyle relay foursome of Evan Miller, Payton Woods, Brandon Bell and Garrett Barnard finished 30th in 1:31.89.
No area entrants advanced to today’s finals. The top six preliminary performers in each event moved on to the championship finals, and the next six to the consolation finals.
Central came in 32nd in the 200 medley relay. The team of Ashi Bhatt, Miller, Barnard and Woods was clocked at 1:42.67.
Centennial’s 400 freestyle relay unit of Evan Peirce, Logan Starks, Scott Wierschem and Heath Rogers placed 36th in 3:28.57.
Brock Bales of Sullivan placed 42nd in two events. The senior was clocked in 1:00.44 in the 100 breast and finished in 53.70 in the 100 butterfly.
Centennial’s Rogers was 46th in the 100 backstroke in 57.77.
In diving, Urbana’s Tony Petrotte finished 47th with a score of 127.80.
