Prep Highlights: Class 1A girls' tennis at state

At State

Class 1A. Uni High's Lindsay Huang won both of her matches on Thursday, headlining the area's five second-day qualifiers. Teammate Grace Qiu nearly did the same, losing narrowly in the second round before rebounding to advance in the consolation bracket.

Champaign Central's Olivia Gunn and Allison Bergh advanced by winning two consolation matches, the second of which ended in a tiebreaker.

St. Thomas More's Mia Stipes and Delaney Tressler dropped a close opening doubles match, 7-5, 6-3, but the duo rebounded to win its two consolation bracket matches to earn a trip to the tournament's second day. They'll be joined by teammates Caroline Waddell and Kayley Schacht, who won one match in the championship bracket and another in the consolation bracket.

Class 2A. Danville's Lauren Ellis and Centennial's doubles team of Madison Scaggs and Mary Woods each went 1-2, bowing out of the tournament.

LeRoy 2, Ridgeview 0. Danielle Hanshew had eight kills in a 25-21, 26-24 win for the Panthers. Mya Tinsley had eight kills and five assists for Ridgeview.

El Paso-Gridley 2, Fisher 0. Cameron McGrew had nine kills and three service points for the Bunnies in a 12-25, 14-25 loss.

Blue Ridge 2, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 0. Maddie Hopkins' six kills led Blue Ridge to a 25-10, 25-21 win. Maddie Schutte had 10 assists for the Falcons.

El Paso-Gridley 2, LeRoy 0. Cara Levingston had four blocks for the Panthers in a 17-25, 23-25 loss.


Springfield 2, Champaign Central 1. Rylee Hinton tallied 14 kills and six digs and Brittany Anglin piled up 36 assists, but the Maroons fell 24-26, 25-19, 21-25. Mira Chopra added 11 kills.

St. Thomas More 2, Prairie Central 0. Hayes Murray dished out 14 assists and Mica Allison amassed eight kills, 11 assists, two aces and nine digs in the Sabers' 25-23, 25-10 win.

Urbana 2, Decatur Eisenhower 0. Urbana dominated its way to a 25-14, 25-10 win as Kaylyn Johnston tallied four aces, three kills and four assists. Hannah Davenport had three aces and Bella Hall finished with five kills.

ALAH 2, Decatur LSA 0. Taylor Powell and Hannah Wallen had nine kills apiece in a 25-14, 25-7 win. Liz Shipman tallied seven kills and two aces and Madison Brown dished out 23 assists as the Knights took home the Little Okaw Valley Conference Southeast title.

Cissna Park 2, Iroquois West 0. Sloan Boyce notched six kills and two aces and Anna Jennings had 21 assists and five digs in the Timberwolves' 25-13, 25-5 win. Gabby Wessels added seven kills. Rachel Carney posted seven assists for the Raiders.

Watseka 2, Clifton Central 0. Emily Bunting tallied 14 assists, 10 digs three aces and three kills in a 25-10, 25-18 win. Kennedy Bauer had 11 kills and a block for the Warriors.

Tri-County 2, Cumberland 0. Ali Smith tallied nine kills and five blocks, Julia Robertson had 25 kills, Becca Royer notched 12 digs and Tri-County came out with a 25-20, 25-20 win.

Georgetown-Ridge Farm 2, Christman 0. Lacey Steinbaugh tallied 20 assists and three aces to help lead the Buffaloes to a 25-10, 25-17 win. Kasie Anderson notched five aces, four kills, and three digs. Taylor Stahl alsohad six kills and three digs for the winners.

Paxton-Buckley-Loda 2, Dwight 0. Ariana Gentzler piled up 11 kills, six aces and two digs while Kalista Klann added 18 assists in a 25-23, 25-12 win.

St. Joseph-Ogden 2, Monticello 0. Abbi Burnett tallied seven kills and six digs to lead the Spartans to a 25-22, 25-16 win. Sarah Acklin picked up 11 assists and two kills and Katelyn Berry added seven kills. Aubrey Frye had six assists for Monticello and Zanna Myers tallied five kills and 11 digs.

Argenta-Oreana 2, Bement 1. Led by Amaya Fox's 10 kills and 11 digs, the Bombers won 25-22, 21-25, 25-18. Kamryn Harris added 15 digs and two aces and Tatiana Garcia notched 12 assists and nine digs. Hannah Foran had 11 blocks, 23 digs and seven kills for the Bulldogs.

Schlarman 2, Oakwood 0. Aleksas Dietzen racked up 10 assists, nine kills and two blocks in a 25-19, 26-24 win. Janie Gross had seven kills and six blocks for the Hilltoppers.

Westville 2, Salt Fork 1. The Buffaloes fell in the first set but pulled out a 17-25, 25-19, 25-23 win. Riley Kinney filled up the stat sheet with 12 kills, 10 digs, five blocks and an ace and Taylor Cox had 18 assists, 10 digs and three kills for the Tigers.

Bloomington Central Catholic 2, Unity 1. Haley Glanzer tallied eight assists and three aces and Erin Stevens had 17 digs for the Rockets in a 25-16, 19-25, 25-8 loss.

Cerro Gordo 2, Arcola 0. Anna Peter tallied 11 kills and 11 digs in a 25-22, 25-13 win. Taylor Cherry added 11 assists, four digs and three aces.

Clinton 2, Sullivan 0. Clinton won 25-10, 25-20 behind 10 kills, eight digs and seven assists from Madi Filkin. Raymi Dial tallied eight digs and three aces for the Bearcats, while Gwen Diepholz had eight digs for Sullivan.

Milford 2, Hoopeston Area 0. Emily Duis piled up 14 kills, two blocks and six digs, while Kaylee Warren had 18 assists in Milford's 25-10, 25-9 win.

Bismarck-Henning-Rossville-Alvin 2, Armstrong-Potomac 1. The Blue Devils notched a 23-25, 25-18, 25-13 win behind Ashlyn Clem's 17 digs, five kills, four blocks and one ace.

Grace Harris added five digs and 15 assists. Madi Gayheart had 16 assists, 19 aces, four kills and an ace for the Trojans.

Tuscola 2, Meridian 0. Isabelle Shelmadine racked up 19 assists, 10 digs and an ace, while Karli Dean had nine kills, two aces and a block in the Warriors' 25-17, 25-16 win.

In girls' swimming

At Champaign. Maddie Heiser won the 500-yard freestyle (5 minutes, 48.91 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (1:08.05) to lead Champaign Central to a 114-66 win over Bloomington. River Jones took home the 100-yard breast stroke in 1:12.61 and helped lead the 200-medley relay and 200-freestyle relay to wins. Morgan McKee triumphed in the 200-yard individual medley for the Maroons in 2:29.62.
