Prep pulse: Sept. 17, 2018

Our first-ever radio show dedicated entirely to high school football has gotten off to a roaring start.

Through three episodes of the "Loman-Ray Insurance Prep Football Confidential" series, Jim Rossow and I have chatted with coaches and athletes from 18 different area schools — and we have many more to go.

In volleyball

St. Joseph-Ogden 2, Danville 0. The Spartans (12-2) collected a 25-21, 25-23 road victory over the Vikings (5-6). Kelsey Wendall had 10 kills for Danville. Jenna Albrecht, Emory Ericksen and Payton Vallee each had four kills for SJ-O.

Argenta-Oreana 2, Springfield Southeast 0. Argenta-Oreana made quick work of Southeast in a 25-5, 25-17 sweep. Madelyn Tipsword led the Bombers (7-3) with nine kills.

Talented sophomore Broaders next up to lead Illineks in the pool

URBANA — Reed Broaders maintained modest expectations entering her 2017 season with Uni High girls' swimming.

On the surface, it was a reasonable approach. After all, Broaders was just a freshman with coach Dave Young's program last year.

"All I really wanted to do was just make my team proud," Broaders said. "I thought I was just going to go to sectionals and just do my best."
