Aten, Uni pair remain alive

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS — Champaign Central's Austin Aten and Urbana Uni High's doubles tandem of Alex Mestre and Edo Roth advanced to the consolation third round of the IHSA tennis tournament Thursday.

Aten cruised in his first-round match before losing in three sets in the second round. He won 6-2, 6-0 in the consolation second round.

Mestre and Roth needed three sets to win their opener before losing in the second round. They won 6-4, 7-6 (4) in their second-round consolation match.

Central's Kenneth Yun and St. Thomas More's Travis Tressler were ousted in the second round of the consolation bracket. They lost their openers before winning their first consolation match.

In doubles, Danville's Matthew Kidwell and Tyler Ellis won their opener before losing twice in the consolation bracket.

Teams from Centennial (Akshay Krishnamani/Daniel Lee) and Central (Samuel Wampler/Ryan Smith) lost their first two matches.
