Wednesday's highlights: SVC tourney in full swing

In volleyball

n At Paxton. JANIE SKULBORSTAD had seven kills and MEGAN CASAGRANDE added five as St. Thomas More defeated Momence 25-15, 25-12 in the Sangamon Valley Conference tournament. HANNAH MURRAY chipped in four aces and four digs and LEXI WALLEN added three blocks. In other SVC tourney matches, St. Joseph-Ogden beat Clifton Central 25-11, 25-6 behind six kills apiece from JOSEY FRUHLING and COURTNEY LEARNED. EMILY GRISWELL dished out 17 assists. JESSICA ALLHANDS' 10 kills powered Watseka to a 27-25, 25-15 victory against CPCI. HAYLEY GRAY collected three blocks and KAT GRIMES had 18 assists for the Warriors. Paxton-Buckley-Loda topped Iroquois West as KANDACE HOFER and CHANDLER JARBOE had five kills apiece. CATLYN EKSTROM led the defense with 12 digs.

n At Urbana. EMMA HOYER had five kills and four aces but Urbana Uni fell to Oakwood 19-25, 25-18, 25-23. JAMIE BLUE had five kills and Juliana Trach had 11 assists for the Illineks. For the Comets, Makenzie Baker had six aces and 10 kills while Peyton Jones added five kills and11blocks.

In tennis

n Baillon, Hansen earn seeds. St. Thomas More's MADIE BAILLON and the player she defeated to win the sectional on Saturday, Centennial's ALLISON HANSEN, have been seeded in the 17-32 spots for this weekend's state tennis tournament in the Chicago suburbs.

Baillon will face North Shore Country Day's ALEX BERGMAN in the first round. She is in the same section of the draw as No. 1 seed KEISHA CLOUSING of Wheaton Warrenville South. Hansen faces Glenbard South's JENNA BRAMBORA in the first round.
