Athletes of the Week: Houmes, Aten

Recently: Broke two meet records in the Vermilion County Meet, including a record in the 3,200 meters that had stood for 31 years, which she shattered by 27 seconds. Also lowered her own mark in the 1,600 meters by five seconds. On Monday, she broke the same two records in the Vermilion Valley Conference meet, running faster times than she did at the County meet.

In her words: "It was really exciting to be able to go in and set some records, get my name in the books."

Recently: Won the No. 1 singles title in the 16-school Moline Invitational. Beat three opponents in straight sets before rallying in the finals for a 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 triumph against an opponent from Tinley Park Andrew.
