Saturday's prep highlights: Hansen, Danville shine on state courts

In girls' tennis
Hansen, Lewises go 3-2.
Allison Hansen of Centennial and the Danville doubles team of Rachel Lewis and Becca Lewis saw their runs at the IHSA girls’ tennis state tournament end Saturday with a loss.
Hansen was defeated by Glenbrook South’s Annemarie Emme 8-5 in the fifth round of the singles consolation bracket at Rolling Meadows. The Chargers senior went 3-2 in the tournament.
The Lewises also finished with a 3-2 record after falling in the fourth consolation round to a Kaneland Maple Park duo 5-7, 7-6 (6), 6-3 at Palatine.

In volleyball

Watseka reigns. Taylor Bauer had five kills and eight digs to lead Watseka to a 25-17, 25-23 victory against St. Thomas More in the title match of the Sangamon Valley Conference volleyball tournament at Paxton. Katie Kulas paced the Sabers with seven kills and five blocks.

D-W takes title. DeLand-Weldon defeated Decatur Lutheran 25-21, 25-27, 15-10 in the championship match of the East Central Illinois Conference tournament at DeLand.
Urbana University High split two matches on the final day and finished third. The Illineks (16-12) fell to DeLand-Weldon 25-20, 25-22 but bounced back to defeat Judah Christian 25-20, 21-25, 15-11. Emma Hoyer had a total of 17 kills for Uni in the two matches, while Chelsea Edwards and Abbi Frings each had 16 digs in the win against the Tribe.

Gross breaks record. Schlarman finished third in the silver division of the Quincy Notre Dame tournament. Laura Gross, who had 29 kills in the Hilltoppers’ five matches, set a school record for single-season kills at 213.
