Monticello, Champaign Central to add Hall of Fame inductees

Champaign Central and Monticello will add to their school’s respective athletic Hall of Fame classes later this month.

First up is Monticello, where the Sages will induct three individuals on Friday night as part of the school’s homecoming festivities. The Sages (6-0) host St. Thomas More (5-1) at 7 p.m. in a key Okaw Valley Conference game.

■ St. Joseph-Ogden 2, Unity 0. Kylie Michael had nine kills and eight digs, Kate Bigger had two blocks, Jannah Mullen had two aces and Andrea Coursey had 17 assists and eight digs to pace the Spartans to a 25-18, 25-19 sweep in an Okaw Valley Conference match played at St. Joseph.

On campus: Catching up with area standouts

■ Sophomore Anna Billman, from Urbana, has started 12 of 16 matches for the North Central volleyball team (11-5). The middle hitter/middle blocker is fifth in the Collegiate Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin with a .280 hitting percentage and is second on the team with 110 kills and 33 blocks.

Why he was chosen: The senior quarterback went 25 of 32 for 268 yards and five touchdown passes in rainy conditions during the Bombers’ 54-20 win at Cerro Gordo/Bement to help A-O secure a playoff berth for the first time since 2013.

■ Schlarman 2, Danville 1. The Hilltoppers (10-3) roared back from a one-set deficit to win at Danville, 21-25, 25-15, 25-23. Janie Gross slammed 12 kills, and Reagan Gifford had nine kills. Emily Christian distributed 24 assists. Danville’s Megan Burton had 11 kills.

Unity 2, Rantoul 0. Lauren Wendling delivered seven digs, Megan Foster smashed six kills and Abby Maxwell came up with 18 assists for the Rockets in a 25-19, 25-11 sweep. Bree Davis and Emily Schluter both had three kills for the Eagles.
