Saturday's prep highlights: Staske fans 15 in Chargers' win

In softball
Bradley-Bourbonnais 12-6, Rantoul 2-5. HANNAH CARGO and DIAMOND WALKER each drove in a run for the Eagles, who lost in five innings. In the second game, LACEY BERTRAM had three hits while CARSON CHURCH, KAYLEE DENTON and KATEY SILVER each had two hits to go along with an RBI.  

All-Area Girls' Tennis Coach of Year: Danville's Mark Bacys

Second-year head coach guided the Vikings to a second consecutive sectional championship (for the first time since 2002 and ‘03) as well as a first-place finish in the Big 12 Conference tournament and also the Mattoon Invitational.

At suburban Chicago. Allison Hansen of Centennial fell one win short of advancing to the singles quarterfinals at the IHSA state tournament.
The Chargers senior won her first two matches in straight sets before losing to Sycamore’s Angela Ye 6-0, 0-6, 6-3 in the third round.

Tournament officials needed to go to the fifth tiebreaker in the IHSA manual Saturday to determine a champion.

The Big 12 champion Vikings ran the table in doubles. Rachael and Becca Lewis prevailed at No. 1 doubles, as did Amy Shah and Neha Patel at No. 2 and Courtney Hart and Taylor Ellis at No. 3. Shah, Ellis, Patel and Hart were each triumphant in singles as coach Mark Bacys’ team extended its streak of Big 12 titles to three.

At Urbana. Prairie Central’s JACKIE DUFFY was the individual medalist and the Hawks (397) finished third behind champion Bishop McNamara (370) and runner-up Mahomet-Seymour (384) in advancing to the Class 1A state finals. PC’s EMILY HEISER added a 95 and JENNA HALE shot 99.

Monday's prep highlights: Peavler, Thompson lead golf contingent

At Savoy. One year ago, Brock Peavler fell 1 stroke short of qualifying for the state tournament. The Rantoul/PBL senior took the memory of that near miss onto the University of Illinois Orange Course on Monday.
“He’s been looking forward to this thing for about 365 days,” Eagles coach Travis Flesner said.
