Okaw Valley, Corn Belt conferences will merge

PONTIAC — The merger between the Okaw Valley and Corn Belt conferences is complete.
Pontiac became the final school to approve the new conference at Tuesday’s school board meeting, meaning a new 10-team league commences beginning with the 2017-18 school year.

Champaign Central 2, Memorial (N.J.) 1. The Maroons trailed in the sixth inning, but Matt Brown, Tanner Gordon and Zak Hartleb tallied consecutive hits, with Hartleb and Joe Bagger driving in the tying and winning runs at Louisville, Ky. Justin Willis allowed just three hits.

Thursday's highlights: Uni High soccer rolls past Monticello

In baseball
Centennial 7, Stagg 4. After falling behind 2-1, the Chargers rallied for four runs in the third inning and held on for the victory. Quin Nottingham went 2 for 4 with a double and Kellen Sarver drove in a pair of runs for the Chargers. Hurler Jordan Williams got the victory, and Sarver picked up the save.

Winning pitcher Dylan Dodd (5-0), who struck out 10, allowed two hits and no earned runs in five innings for the host Blue Devils. Ethan Allsopp had two doubles, two RBI and three runs in the victory. Nicholas Limentato and Brayden Mitchell had hits for the Tribe.
