Teams of the Week: SJ-O boys' cross-country shows way

St. Joseph-Ogden boys’ cross-country
Led by Brennan Guido’s seventh-place finish in 15:23, the hosts finished second at the Spartan Classic. Justin Phillips was 10th in 15:38, Austin Earp took 16th in 15:50, Ross Smetzer came in 24th in 16:13 and Nate Phillips finished 34th in 16:27.

Why he was chosen: The Vikings sophomore scored the game-winning — and only — goal in Danville’s win against Big 12 rival Urbana and followed it up with two goals and three assists in a 7-1 victory against Charleston.

■ Watseka 2, Westville 0. Sophomore Emily Bunting had eight assists and Katie Kidwell had eight digs as Watseka (15-9) won in Westville 28-26, 25-18 on Monday. Kenzie Crabtree had four kills and Mariah Rolinitis had 15 digs for Westville (7-6).

Saturday's highlights: Unity boys, Uni High girls victorious

In boys’ cross-country
At St. Joseph-Ogden. Unity’s Andrew Warnes won the Spartan Classic and led Unity to the team title with a time of 14 minutes, 49 seconds. Austin Woodard finished fifth for the Rockets in 15:18, and Dawson Dodds finished sixth less than a second behind.

Thursday's highlights: McFarland, Hoel put on a show

In volleyball

■ Chrisman 2, Schlarman 0. Chrisman remained unbeaten at 14-0 and 5-0 in the Vermilion Valley Conference with a 25-20, 25-14 sweep of Schlarman. Kodey Bush set a balanced Cardinals’ attack with 12 assists and was one of five players with at least two kills. Elora Thomas’ four kills were tops for Chrisman in the win.
