Saturday's prep highlights: Brown lifts Rockets


Unity 12-13, Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley 0-3. KIP BROWN pitched a four-hitter in the opener for the Rockets, who banged out 10 hits. Unity collected 14 more in the nightcap, including a homer from MITCH NEGANGARD. KYLE NEGANGARD, JACOB RICE and CALEB RICE each had four hits in the doubleheader.

Thursday's prep highlights: Urbana baseball tops Central


Urbana 8, Champaign Central 1. Dylan Anderson held Central to two hits in 6 1/3 innings and struck out nine, leading the Tigers to a road victory. Gabriel Murrey-Inskeep had two doubles and two RBI for Urbana, which also received two hits apiece from Salman Khan and C. Garrett Johnson.

Monday's highlights: Stefan powers Chargers


Centennial 14, MacArthur 0. LUCAS STEFAN had a grand slam and two-run home runs as the Chargers rolled in a Big 12 road game. CULLY WILSON and DANIEL CROWLEY each had two hits.

Mattoon 6, Rantoul 5. TERRY DEAVILLE had two doubles for the Eagles, who let a 5-3 lead slip away.

Thursday's prep highlights: Overstreet leads PBL


Paxton-Buckley-Loda 4, St. Joseph-Ogden 2. Winning pitcher DYLAN OVERSTREET improved to 4-1, allowing a pair of seventh-inning runs. TANNER HARRIS drove in a run for PBL (10-5).

Tuesday's prep highlights: Rockets win thriller


Unity 2, Tuscola 0. TYLER BIALESCHKI outdueled JACOB BARR as the Rockets improved to 15-2. Bialeschki (6-1) allowed three hits (two by TJ ONSTOTT) and no walks while striking out seven. Barr surrendered four hits, three to CALEB RICE.

At Champaign. CAMERON LEE and JAKE ENGLAND had two hits apiece as Oakwood beat Champaign Central 5-1 in the third-place game of the Charlie Due tournament. The Maroons earlier lost to Springfield Southeast 8-2 despite a home run from KURTIS BROWN. JAKE HENSS had two hits.

Thursday's highlights: Bialeschki, Unity blank Rantoul


LeRoy 5, Monticello 2. CALEB GRAYBEAL pitched a three-hitter and ERIC STEFFEN had two hits and two steals to lead the Panthers.

B-H 2, Seeger, Ind. 1. Winning pitcher Stephen Krout struck out 10 for visiting Bismarck-Henning. Tyler McKenzie and Stephen Head each doubled, and Krout added two singles.

Austin Aten, Champaign Central: Freshman has emerged as the Maroons' No. 1 player and is expected to be a strong force in his first year on the prep scene.

Tyler Ellis, Danville: Now a sophomore, played No. 1 singles for the Vikings as a freshman and was part of a doubles team that qualified for state.
