Friday's highlights: Nelson pitches Vikings to victory

■ Mahomet-Seymour 8, St. Thomas More 2. The visiting Sabers took an early 2-0 lead, but the Bulldogs plated four runs in the second inning to grab a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Brooks Coetzee hit two home runs for M-S and wound up 2 for 3 with three RBI. Teammate Tom Kenney (2 for 3) also hit a home run and contributed three RBI. 

 

Thursday's prep highlights: Chalifoux reaches milestone

In girls’ soccer

■ Central 6, Bloomington 0. Champaign Central’s Maddy Chalifoux scored her 100th career goal. It was one of her four goals for the Maroons. The area’s all-time girls’ soccer career scoring record is 106 goals by 2003 Centennial graduate Megan Bushue.

Why he was chosen: Gibson, the area leader in the discus, won the shot put and discus at Friday’s Monticello Invitational. He threw 51 feet, 91/2 inches to win the shot put by 7 inches, and
his throw of 161-10 gave him the discus title by 81/2 feet.

Tuesday's prep highlights: Maroons top Urbana in soccer

In baseball

■ Centennial 11, Urbana 0. Jeff Lindgren pitched a no-hitter and Dylan Grady belted a solo homer in the third inning and a grand slam in the fourth inning to lead the Chargers (14-3) past the Tigers.

Saturday's highlights: Chargers baseball dominates

■ Kankakee 5-0, Rantoul 1-10. Sam Hall and Brad Graybill finished with two hits apiece for Rantoul in the first game. In the second game, Josh Frerichs allowed three hits in a shutout. Graybill doubled and added three RBI.

■ At Urbana. Sunny Singh, Andrew Scaggs, Matthew Scaggs, Wyatt Small and Kevin Kim all won in singles and doubles, leading Centennial to a 9-0 victory against Urbana.
