Wednesday's prep highlights: Trolia sparkles for M-S golfers

In girls’ golf

■ At Mahomet. Emily Trolia’s 39 was 1 shot from medalist honors for Mahomet-Seymour in a three-school meet at the par-36 Lake of the Woods course. Bloomington Central Catholic was the meet winner (183), followed by Lincoln (186) and M-S (197).

Tuesday's prep highlights: Urbana tops Central in soccer

In boys’ soccer
■ Urbana 4, Central 2. Dann Musasa scored three of the Tigers’ four goals. Ndumiso Madela also scored for Urbana. Alex Zarco scored both goals for the Maroons.

■ Hoopeston Area 3, Bismarck-Henning 1. Skyler Barnard, Bailey Crose and Chase Bouse all scored to lead the Cornjerkers. Drake Swinford had a goal for B-H.

M-S girls' tennis 'breaking the mold'

Unconventional might be the only way to describe the Mahomet-Seymour girls’ tennis team.

With no tennis courts in Mahomet, playing at home isn’t an option. So the Bulldogs commute to Champaign to practice on courts at Parkland College.

Saturday's prep highlights: PBL places second at volleyball invite

In volleyball

■ At Paxton. Paxton-Buckley-Loda was the runner-up in the PBL Invitational. PBL lost to Lexington 2-0 (25-15, 25-19) in the championship match. Kellyn Maynard had nine service points and six kills. Eve Bahler had 20 assists. Maynard, Bahler and Sarah Watts were named to the all-tournament team.

Thursday's prep highlights: Hockman leads M-S boys' golf

In volleyball

Centennial 2, Urbana 0. Jaime Johnson had 17 assists, four kills and five digs and Kelly Braghini and Jordyn Jones each had six kills as the Chargers (11-5) swept the Tigers 25-17, 25-17.

PBL decides to stick with SVC

PAXTON — For 25 years, Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School has had what athletic director John Overstreet called a “long-standing tradition” with the Sangamon Valley Conference.

“It’s what I grew up with,” Overstreet said. “It’s what other parents grew up with.”

In girls’ tennis

■ At Champaign. Mia Stipes, Caroline Waddell, Izzy Schmitt and Delany Tressler all won singles matches for St. Thomas More in its 7-2 win against Champaign Central. Stipes and Waddell teamed to win at No. 1 doubles. Maddie King and Tressler won at No. 2, and Sophia Sobeski teamed with Kayley Schacht at No. 3.

Athletes of the Week: Keeble and Rice

Sara Rice, Mahomet-Seymour tennis

Why she was chosen: The Bulldogs senior won her first official tournament championship Saturday at the Herrin Invitational, going 3-0 at No. 1 singles while losing just eight of the 44 games she played in the three matches. The wins in Herrin also wrapped up an undefeated regular season.

■ St. Joseph-Ogden 34, Monmouth-Roseville 20. Ryan Allen had 18 carries for 164 yards and two touchdowns for the visiting Spartans in the win. Eli Oltean was 4 of 9 for 119 yards.
