Schlarman baseball rallies

DANVILLE — Schlarman coach Jason Woodworth wasn't in the best of moods when his team fell behind Tuscola 7-0 in Friday's Class 1A sectional semifinal at Danville Stadium.

"I was down and disappointed in the way things were going," he said. "But I knew we could find a way to come back."

Aten, Uni pair remain alive

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS — Champaign Central's Austin Aten and Urbana Uni High's doubles tandem of Alex Mestre and Edo Roth advanced to the consolation third round of the IHSA tennis tournament Thursday.

Aten cruised in his first-round match before losing in three sets in the second round. He won 6-2, 6-0 in the consolation second round.

Bulletin board: Mears headed to Beloit

CHAMPAIGN — Maria Mears will attend Beloit College in Beloit, Wis. She will be a member of the women's tennis team. She qualified for the state tennis tournament three times during her high school career at Centennial.

URBANA — The order of the day for the Champaign Central boys' tennis team: "Pictures galore," coach Scott Davis said.

Upon further review, Champaign Central gets a share of the Big 12 boys' tennis title.

After Monday's rain-delayed tournament ended, Danville was awarded the team championship by virtue of a tiebreaker. But Bloomington High athletic director John Szabo, who handles the awards for the Big 12, said Tuesday a tiebreaker was unnecessary.

Mahomet-Seymour 3, Normal Community 0. ANDREW LAWSON pitched a five-hitter and JASON ZIEGLER slugged a three-run homer for the Bulldogs.

Danville 4, Normal U-High 3. The Vikings scored the decisive run in the fifth when DENNIS FORREST doubled and scored on two wild pitches.

Saturday's prep highlights: Storm clinches baseball title


Salt Fork 7, Bismarck-Henning 5. The host Storm clinched the Vermilion Valley title, improving to 13-2 in the conference. Ross Learnard had three of Salt Fork's 10 hits, and Sam Shoaf drove in two runs for the Blue Devils.

St. Joseph-Ogden 2, St. Thomas More 0. BEN KNIPFER tossed a two-hit shutout, handing the visiting Sabers their first loss in Sangamon Valley Conference play.

Tri-Valley 8, Fisher 0. MATT ELKINS had two of the host Bunnies' four hits.

Tuesday's prep highlights: Namoff sparks Chargers


Centennial 9, Rantoul 4. TYLER NAMOFF went 3 for 3 with two RBI to power the visiting Chargers. The Eagles (16-10) got two RBI from KELLY FOSTER.

Clinton 6, Argenta-Oreana 4. JOSH MERRICK clubbed a two-run homer and NATE ENNIS added a solo shot for the Maroons.
