Weather wins out on area tracks

ST. JOSEPH – Inclement weather forced Friday's Spartan Classic to be postponed, but Tyler Carter still managed to strut his stuff.

The Tuscola star won the long jump and triple jump before the boys' track and field meet was called. Paxton-Buckley-Loda's Nick Brehm won the 3,200 meters, Urbana University High won the 3,200 relay and St. Joseph-Ogden claimed the varsity 400 relay.

The 35th annual meet will resume at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Elsewhere:

– The Gene Ward Invitational boys' meet was canceled due to weather.

– Hannah Hogan won the 3,200 and Morgan Davis took the pole vault as St. Joseph-Ogden got off to a fast start at the Lady Sages Invitational at Monticello.

The Spartans were in second place when the meet was postponed. Action will resume at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Other area winners included Arthur's Tiffany Beach (high jump), Oakwood's Stephanie Denius (triple jump) and Monticello's Whitney Vanderpool.
