Girls' track Coach of the Year: Erica Kostoff

Erica Kostoff, GCMS

Why: Directed GCMS to a second-place team finish in the Class 1A IHSA girls' track and field state meet thanks to scoring points in seven events. The Falcons had state champions in three of the events.

Season evaluation: "As coaches, we impress on the girls to believe in themselves and set high goals. We want to see the girls reach those goals. I'm so thankful I had gifted girls with tremendous character who were willing to be committed to becoming better and who set high goals. I hope these girls' lives were enhanced by the sport of track. It's not just about being the top in the state, but learning character and life lessons," Kostoff said.

A few of my favorite things: The Bulls ... Liberty University ... Track and field ... Good Will ... Kofusion ... My Altima ... Pride and Prejudice ... Brad Meltzer's Decoded ... Bucket List includes diving with sharks, visiting Europe and skydiving ...

About Coach Kostoff: "Coach Kostoff is a great motivator. She's enthusiastic and loves what she is doing. She makes practices fun. She said we could get the (1,600-meter relay) school record. The more people tell you things, you start to believe it, and we ended up doing it (3:59.22)." — GCMS senior Sydni Meunier.
