Teams of the Week: Danville girls in spotlight
DANVILLE GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD
For the 10th time in the past 13 years (and the third year in a row), the Vikings won the Big 12 Conference indoor championship. Emone’ Davis was part of three first-place efforts, sweeping the sprint races. Four teammates captured first-place finishes.
CENTENNIAL GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD
The Chargers ran fourth in the Big 12 Conference indoor meet. Juniors Dominique Lewis (400) and Rebecca Kaefring (1,600) won their events, while the 1,600-meter relay foursome of Jada Caston, Virginia Disch, LaToyah Mason and Bertha Frazier was also triumphant.
MONTICELLO BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD
The Sages had the top nine placers in six individual events as well as in three relays at the Southern Illinois University Invitational. The 800-meter relay unit placed third, as did Matt Norvell in the 3,200. Josh Burton landed a sixth-place finish in the long jump.
CHAMPAIGN CENTRAL GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD
The Maroons were fifth in the team standings at the Big 12 Conference indoor meet but had two standout performances. For the second meet in a row, Ranija Turner shattered the school record in the shot put. Hannah Wright set the school indoor mark in the 3,200.
