Kemper, Thomas spark Maroons
DECATUR – All-tournament selections Esther Kemper and Mariah Thomas led Champaign Central to first place at the Eisenhower volleyball tournament. The Maroons went 5-0, beating Warrensburg-Latham in the championship.
At Arcola. Unity beat Fisher 26-24, 25-22 to win the Arcola Invitational on Saturday. Tri-County was fourth. Sarah Schneider had 12 kills and Christine Fortney had 11 as Arcola placed sixth. Katie Davis had 21 kills in four matches for eighth-place Arthur.
At Danville. Sarah Barrett had 27 kills and Emily Schiro had 24 as Schlarman went 4-0 to win its own tournament. April Cahill and Bri Thomas each had six aces for the Hilltoppers (13-1), who got 15 kills from Serena Calhoun and 37 digs from Lynzie Fields.
Rachael Bishop had six kills in Villa Grove's four matches.
At Watseka. Led by all-tourney picks Katie Cowan, Jessica Allhands and Kloie McCann, Watseka beat Danville 25-18, 25-23 to win its own tournament. Cowan had 17 kills in the title match. Shawneis Jones (30 kills, 11 blocks) and McKenzie Hodges (99 assists) were Danville's all-tourney selections.
Kelsey Norton was all-tourney for sixth-place Hoopeston Area.
