B-H, Tri-County lead regional parade in volleyball

Class 2A
Bismarck-Henning 2, Salt Fork 0. For the second time in nine days, top-seeded Bismarck-Henning topped Salt Fork, though the Blue Devils had to overcome an 8-4 second-set deficit at home en route to a 25-9, 25-22 triumph. The regional title was the seventh in the past 13 years for coach SUSAN KENTNER’s teams.
“In the first set, we played like we can,” Kentner said. “MARY BASS was phenomenal and BRITTANY SPICER, too.”
Spicer landed a match-high eight kills. Bass had six.
MARANDA WITTY, who swatted a match-ending kill, led with nine digs. TAYLOR ELLIS had 12 assists, and JESSICA HALL had four blocks. Ellis and LAUREN McKENZIE each served two aces.

Watseka 2, Dwight 0. KAT GRIMES had 18 assists, helping the Warriors (30-3) to a title-match sweep at home, 25-19, 25-16 against Dwight. TAYLOR BAUER had 12 kills and ALISON KAPER seven for Watseka. KAITY JOHNSON had five digs and HAYLEY GRAY two blocks for the repeat regional champions.

Class 1A
Tri-County 2, Martinsville 0. AMBER MEYER had 23 assists as Tri-County overpowered Martinsville 25-7, 25-15 in the title match of the Hutsonville Regional. KYLA SKINNER had 12 kills and AUTUMN MEYER 10 digs to go with four aces for the Titans (32-2). ABBY SMITH had two blocks. The senior class, which includes the Meyers and Skinner, won regional titles all four of their years in high school. Coach DREW ROBERTSON’s team has a 29-match winning streak, 22 in two-set sweeps.

Arthur-Lovington 2, Windsor 0. The Lancers (25-5) avenged a late-season loss to top-ranked Windsor and posted a 25-18, 25-19 win in the title match of the Okaw Valley Regional at Bethany. The crown was the second in a row for coach VAL CORNWELL’s teams. JESSICA DAVIS had eight kills, JULIA COHAN five and KARLY GOODMAN five for A-L. SHERELLE COLLER had 20 assists, BROOKE TABB 11 digs and EMILY SEEGMILLER four aces.

Schlarman 2, Cissna Park 1. Schlarman knocked off top-seeded Cissna Park (19-15), 25-7, 22-25, 25-20, in the finals at Milford. The regional title was the fourth in five seasons for the Hilltoppers (27-5).

Heritage 2, Cerro Gordo 0. TERRA RUMER had five aces and CEDAR RICHARDSON five kills for Heritage (21-15), which won its second regional in a row with identical 25-19, 25-19 scores against Cerro Gordo (15-16) at Decatur Lutheran.
