Centennial prepares for unfamiliar volleyball foe
NORMAL — Centennial volleyball coach Stan Bergman knows a lot about Big 12 volleyball rival Bloomington.
Metamora, not so much.
The Chargers (34-4) will play the Redbirds for a Class 3A sectional championship at 7 p.m. Thursday at Normal University High School after his squad defeated Bartonville Limestone 25-9, 25-12 on Tuesday night in the semifinals.
“I don’t really know a whole lot about them,” Bergman said of Metamora, which defeated the Purple Raiders 25-22, 25-23 in the other semifinal. “We were able to watch the whole match and look at some things. We have to play defense to their strengths.”
Centennial never was threatened against Limestone.
“We were in control pretty much the whole time,” Bergman said.
Lindsay Rogan paced the Chargers with four aces and five digs. Maddie Weldon added 10 assists, and Allie Shannon had five kills.
“They didn’t take a lot of swings at us, but when they did we got a lot of balls up,” Bergman said.
