PBL's Kleinert digs new home at Parkland

CHAMPAIGN — Technically, Kailey Kleinert will officially join Parkland College’s volleyball team next fall.

To the Paxton-Buckley-Loda senior, however, Friday’s signing with the program was merely a continuation of a relationship that has spanned about five years.

Kleinert said she made her decision to join Parkland’s volleyball program last August and has known head coach Cliff Hastings and assistant coach Ron Hoppe since she was in eighth grade.

Hastings and Hoppe own the Prime Time Volleyball Club, for which Kleinert has competed.

“I’ll definitely miss all the girls (at PBL),” Kleinert said. “I love the atmosphere here, but I feel like Parkland is kind of my home now. I’ve developed a family there, too.”

“We’ve, obviously, known Kailey for a while,” Hoppe added. “We’ve seen her grow into a confident player. We’re excited with the physicality that she possesses. It’s going to be something that’s going to do very well for Parkland.”

Kleinert also went on a tour at Parkland before making her decision.

“I really enjoyed it,” Kleinert said. “I played ball with a lot of the girls on the team, and that’s what really persuaded me. I’ve known Ron and Cliff forever. That was a big persuasion, too.”
