O'Linc, Freeseman key for Sages

SHELBYVILLE — Ethan O'Linc and Benton Freeseman won their weight classes Saturday to carry Monticello to the Class 1A Shelbyville Regional title.

O'Linc was the top dog at 120 pounds, while Freeseman captured the 285-pound victory. The Sages also netted a trio of runner-up finishes and five third-place displays to surpass Oakwood/Salt Fork 202.5-147.5 to win the regional.

Other local triumphs came from O/SF's Gage Reed (106), Garrett Lashuay (126), Ren Dazey (132) and Mason Ajster (160), St. Joseph-Ogden's Jake Wendling (113), Unity's Pate Eastin (145), Jake Frost (182) and Cade Scott (195), St. Thomas More's J.D. Sexton (152) and Dan Hettinger (170), and Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin's Cody Miller (220).

Clinton tops field. A quartet of individual successes lifted the host Maroons to the team crown in their own 1A regional. The wins came from Christian Reynolds at 145 pounds, Kolby Winter at 152, Luke Shobe at 170 and Kyle Hammer at 220 as Clinton skirted past LeRoy/Tri-Valley 191.5-144.

Other local victories were netted by Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/Fisher's Cale Horsch (106), Hoopeston Area's Ezra Elliott (126) Dale Ashby (160) and Eliseo Zamora (182) and LeRoy/TV's Carson Schaefer (138) and Dylan Woolridge (195).

Hawks finish second. Prairie Central fared well in the challenging 1A Coal City Regional, claiming second place next to the host by a 205.5-181.5 margin. Clifton Central/Iroquois West notched third in the team chase. The Hawks' winners were Logan Deacetis (132 pounds), Drew Hoselton (170) and Cade Kerns (220), while the Comets earned first-place results from Justin Coggins (195) and Josh Smith (285).
