Hot Type will review the top 150 news stories in the first 150 years (1852-2002) of print journalism in Champaign-Urbana. It's an eye-opening account of a community that not long ago was far different than the university-dominated place it is today.
Hot Type, written in conjunction with the 150th anniversary of The News-Gazette and its predecessors, will review sensational courtroom dramas; the stories of fires and other natural disasters; the rapid development of the community in the 1920s, '50s and '60s; its near-lawless attitudes in the 1930s; and some of the great leaders and colorful characters of the last 150 years.
