Hope
My hope for President Obama is that the majority of the country, politicians, business people, those in authority and the "little people" will recognize him as a once in a lifetime leader and change their attitudes, morals and actions to reflect the direction he wants to take us. He can do little without all of us. Wake up people! America needs to get back on the right track or risk running out of track. We cannot go on the way we have without paying a big price.

Prayer for a New President
Creator God:
Thank You for Barack Obama's smile;
keep infusing him with Your love and joy. Thank You for his vision; keep him growing in wisdom and purpose. Thank You for his energy and rigor; keep him strong in body, mind and spirit. Thank You for his audacious hope; may his faith in You be contagious. Thank You for his articulate voice; keep his words ever ringing true and free. Thank You for his open, caring heart; keep him in touch with those on the margin. Thank You for Michelle, Mahlia and Sasha; keep them safe always together with all of us in Your peace. Amen

A Peace Plan For Youth
With this phenomenal inauguration of Barack Obama, comes a group of young people that are smart, intelligent, and ready for Peace.
With Obama, as President of our United States, the word PEACE means more than just lingering thought, but rather a possible soon to be reality. As a retired Illinois High School Teacher, I am proud of this young generation -- many of which were Obama Supporters -- who are both interested and ready for PEACE.
In terms of achieving this PEACE, I am submitting a Peace Curriculum for high school and college students,in hope that Obama's Education Department -- at least at our Illinois level -- will accept and implement such a program. With important peace promoting programs in place, such as Amnesty Interantional, the Nobel Prize for Peace, the United Nations and others, I feel that the aforementioned Curriculum Proposal, for high school and college students, parallels a goal -- which Obama believes in -- toward establishing Peace in this 21st century.
My original perception of this project occurred as I was talking to a German Teacher -- and her students -- in front of the Potsdam Fountain in Germany. After a discussion of our history, curriculums and wars she said "the serious studies of Peace are few. Please take issue with that as a United States Citizen and teacher."
It is my hope that both Peace and the Peace Curriculum for High School and College Students becomes a reality as we move through these historic times with a newly elected President who not only cares for his people but also ABOUT THEM.

Inauguration
If Washington understands times are tough, why do we need to spend more than $15,000,000 for this. Where and when do WE as a nation start to cut back on none important things. It just does not seem necessary.

Hope
I,along with many other Americans have such great hope that this man will start to turn this country around. On all levels. We have been in a downhill direction for 8 years with a leader who just doesn't get it. It is obvious that Barack Obama is a very intelligent and caring person. We are probably expecting too much of him, he can't do it all by himself, but we can hope!

new hope
I think Obama is a good man who has a ship wreak of a economy he is inheriting. Bush leads the pack of many who set us on this course, of spend....spend....spend. Washington and the whole nation MUST come together to help save us all. I hope WE are all up to the call of WHAT IS BEST FOR THE USA and our children's children.

Intelligence
My hopes for the Obama Presidency are numerous. Not in any particular order: To bring attention and funds to higher education and scholastic research - including our own UIUC; Making FutureGen a reality for central Illinois; A mass movement amongst our citizens to prize intelligence, educational achievement, and scientific breakthroughs over ideological blah-blah; A president who not only respects every person's constitutional rights, but actually has a clue when they are being violated by the government; An end to illegal government sanctioned torture and a resurrection of the right of habeus corpus.
Whew!!! Is that enough????

Universal Healthcare
As one who has handled getting their own healthcare on the so-called "Free Market" (which is neither free nor a market) I know first-hand how hard getting healthcare coverage for your family can be.
For the first 4 months I was in contracting I paid $1,100/mo for COBRA until my son was born. After that I had nothing but a short-term policy while we waited for my client to take me on full-time and provide healthcare benefits. What I learned was that quality health coverage in this country is only available to those who have a group plan available to them, or those who are already healthy and don't plan on using their coverage.
I'm hoping that Barack Obama will bring a single-payer healthcare system that will allow everybody to receive the healthcare that they need without the prejudice currently held by the so-called "market."

Hopes for Obama Presidency
My hopes for the Obama Presidency are very simple:
1. That we can end the wars that we are currently involved in.
2. That we can halt the skid on our economy. That we can put people back to work and help them to keep their homes.
3. That we can become a more united country.

working together for common goals
I am looking forward to a president who will do his best to do what is right for our country and our children. I will be able to look at the future with hope and pride. I may not always agree with him but our president will show respect to all of the citizens of this country.
