'I never heard it sound like this before'

CHAMPAIGN — Pianist Seymour Bernstein was crying when he walked out of the Virginia Theatre house into the lobby Sunday after the documentary — Ebertfest 17's final screening — about him was ending.

"I never heard it sound like this ever before," he told festival emcee Chaz Ebert of the audio quality for "Seymour: An Introduction."

"It's like Roger's voice."

Ebertfest 2015: That's a wrap

CHAMPAIGN — Jan Slater had thought perhaps the University of Illinois College of Media could do away with the last day of Ebertfest, which always falls on a Sunday and tends to draw a smaller audience.

Living in Ebert's childhood home 'kind of cool'

URBANA — As a 12-year-old newspaper carrier, Josh Bubniak had no clue that Roger Ebert's childhood home was on his route.

Jason Segel went to great lengths to prepare himself to play the late David Foster Wallace, the depressed genius who graduated from Urbana High school and wrote the masterpiece “Infinite Jest.”

Segel, looking considerably more chiseled than in “The End of The Tour,” said he immersed himself in Wallace’s work.

Ebertfest extra: 'A Bronx Tale'

CHAMPAIGN — It took a few years for Chazz Palminteri’s one-man play “A Bronx Tale” to become a movie. But once the work started “so many of the things about the movie felt like divine intervention,” producer Jon Kilik said Friday night in Champaign.
