Arcola Broom Corn Festival

Country star coming to Arcola Broom Corn Festival on Sunday

By RENEE CHANGNON/For The News-Gazette

For many country music hopefuls, relocating to Nashville is often the first step in trying to break into the music industry.

And while some find themselves chasing their dreams to no luck, singer David Nail has found his way after years of hard work and determination led him to record hit songs like "Red Light" and "Let it Rain."

The Fit List -- Isaac edition

The triathlon I was going to do this weekend has already been canceled. I’d suggest checking a race website or making a call before heading out to a race this weekend, just in case it’s rained out.
Hopefully the weather will hold out so some of these races can go off.

Weekend of Sept. 1-3:
Arthur Cheese Festival Rat Race

The Fit List

This weekend you can run to remember the heroes of 9/11, or to support women with breast cancer or people with autism. You can also bike Springfield or run the brick streets of Arcola.
So many races this time of year! Choose one and have fun.

Weekend of Sept. 10-11:
— Arcola Broom Corn Festival 10K and 5K

The Fit List

Ready for the Crazy K this weekend? You can still register online today and at the Champaign County Fairgrounds on Saturday. Should be a hoot.
Here’s the list of other area races for the next few weekends.

Weekend of August 27-28:
— Car-X Crazy K

The Fit List

So next Friday, Sept. 17, is the 5th annual Run@Work Day.
The event was created by the Road Runners Club of America to encourage people to run or walk 30 minutes daily, and to encourage companies to build time into the workday for physical activity for employees.

A little bit of everything in Family Picks

Talk about an eclectic lineup this weekend: football, physics, bubbles, jazz, Latin rhythms, dachshunds, dungeons and dragons. And of course, the Lawn Rangers. Need I say more?

Jazz Walk: 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, Meadowbrook Park, Windsor Road and Vine Street, Urbana. Free.

The Fit List

Lots of opportunities to run — and eat — this weekend.
— Sweetcorn 5K Classic

The Fit List

The Labor Day weekend festival races are coming!
Join me in my hometown for Arthur’s 5K Rat Race. It’s really flat, and you’ll get a hunk of cheese after the race.
The 5K is part of Arthur’s Cheese Festival during Labor Day weekend. The race is on Labor Day, Sept. 6.
