Man faces drug, weapon charges

URBANA — A Champaign man who allegedly had cannabis intended for sale at a time when he was armed has been criminally charged.

Rantoul police Sgt. Marcus Beach said officers with his department received information more than a week ago that Timothy Davis was allegedly engaged in selling cannabis from his home in the 1500 block of Hollyhill Drive in Champaign.

Champaign man arrested following incident at Illinois Terminal

CHAMPAIGN— Police arrested a Champaign man after officers saw him selling suspected heroin at Illinois Terminal.

Coritez Edwards, 23, who listed an address in the 1100 block of North Market Street, Champaign, pleaded innocent on Monday to armed violence, a Class X felony.

Judge Richard Klaus set Edwards’ bond at $10,000. Edwards’ next court appearance was set for Nov. 30.

Speeding stop leads to multiple charges

URBANA — A Champaign man who caught the attention of police by allegedly speeding has been charged with several felony offenses.

Assistant State's Attorney Duke Harris said Matthew West, 30, who listed an address in the 2400 block of Curtis Road, was stopped by an Illinois state trooper about 10:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 2400 block of Curtis Road for speeding.

URBANA — A Champaign man found asleep in a car with a gun near him has been charged with three felony offenses.

Lakeith Brooks, 52, who listed an address in the 1900 block of Sumac Drive, is being held in the Champaign County jail on charges of armed violence, possession of weapons by a felon, and possession of a controlled substance.

Arcola police officer arrested for armed violence

TUSCOLA — An Arcola police officer who also serves as the Hindsboro chief of police is being held at the Douglas County jail after state police arrested him for armed violence and official misconduct.

According to a police report, state police arrested Rogelio Javier Gutierrez, 33, of Humboldt, on Friday without incident at the Arcola Police Department.

Teen sentenced to 20 years for injuring Atwood man

TUSCOLA — A Champaign teen who admitted severely injuring an Atwood man in a fight more than a year ago has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Douglas County Judge Mike Carroll imposed the sentence Wednesday that Zakary Giannetti's lawyer, Douglas County Public Defender Jim Lee, and Douglas County State's Attorney Kevin Nolan had agreed to.

CHAMPAIGN — A Champaign man was formally charged Thursday after a gun-related incident  Wednesday near where a man was murdered a week ago.

Benjamin Sayles, 19, who listed an address in the 1900 block of Karen Court, Champaign, was arraigned Thursday on a single count of armed violence, alleging that on Wednesday night he had a gun while in possession of cocaine.

Teens charged in attack at bus stop in Champaign

URBANA — Three Champaign teens accused in connection with an armed attack on a woman at a bus stop last week were charged Tuesday in Champaign County Circuit Court.

Two of the youths are 16 and were charged in juvenile court while the third, Emanuel Spencer-Jackson, 19, of the 1100 block of Waters Edge Drive, was charged as an adult.
