Champaign Cycle

The Fit List

Sounds like it will be a great weekend for running or riding or just being outside. If you’re looking for a race, here’s the list:

Weekend of Oct. 13-14:
Women’s Fitness 5K

The Fit List

Good luck to everyone running the Chicago Marathon this weekend! If you want a shorter and more local race, check out the list.

Weekend of Oct. 6-7:
Wooly Worm 5K
This is a 5K and a family fun run/walk on Saturday in Camargo. The race benefits the Playtime Cooperative Nursery School. You can register on race day beginning at 6 a.m.

Le Grand Tour

If watching the Tour de France inspires you to get out on your bike, there’s a series of rides in Champaign-Urbana that might appeal to you.

OK, so we've got no Alpe d'Huez here, but there are plenty of nice, flat roads to ride on. Le Grand Tour de Champaign is a series of local rides that coincide with the Tour de France schedule.

Buy or sell a used bike, help a good cause

Looking for a bike for the summer? You can buy a used bike — or sell one — and help a good cause at the same time.

Champaign Cycle is hosting its third Community Used Bike Sale this weekend. Ten percent of the sale price of the bicycles sold during the weekend will go to Habitat for Humanity.

The Fit List

Good luck to all the runners at the Chicago Marathon this weekend. If you’re looking for a shorter race, you’re in the right place. And if you liked the Car-X Crazy K, you should consider the Obstacle Mobstacle Dash on Saturday.

The Fit List

The Fit List is all about the bike rides this weekend. I’ve not done any of these rides before, but they all sound like fun. If you ride one of them, let me know how you like it.
Here’s the list:

Weekend of Oct. 1-2:
— Prairie Pedal
This Sunday ride is a fundraiser for the Macon County Conservation Foundation.

The Fit List

This weekend is the 26th Women’s Fitness Run — the oldest event in the area and one that benefits the Center for Women in Transition and the Crisis Nursery.
This women-only race is Sunday at Crystal Lake Park in Urbana. There’s a 5K run, a 5K fitness walk and a kids’ dash for kids under age 12.
The race always has unique awards.

One of the goals I set for myself this summer was to learn how to change a flat on my bike.

Pretty basic stuff, but I’m not really much of a cyclist. My biking consists of doing the minimum amount of training I need each summer to get from zero to being able to finish the bike portion of a triathlon.

Women's Night at Champaign Cycle

One of my goals this summer is to learn to change a flat bike tire.

I’m not a big cyclist, but I’d like to do more biking and this seems like a pretty basic skill that I should have.

Fit for a present; fit in the future.

Athletes are notoriously picky about their stuff.
