RANTOUL — A rural Rantoul couple lost their belongings when a fire destroyed the interior of the mobile home they rented Wednesday afternoon.

The fire at Fountain Valley Mobile Home Park, south of Rantoul, gutted the mobile home of Amanda Ebert and Richard Rutledge.

Rantoul cuts one liquor license

RANTOUL — The village board this week reduced the number of Class A liquor licenses in the village from eight to seven.

The 5-0 vote came despite a request from a couple who had hoped to operate a sports bar in Rantoul with the eighth license.

Gifford earns state academic award

GIFFORD — School board members learned that Gifford Grade School had received a state academic excellence award and were told of upcoming changes in the Illinois Standards Achievement Test.

Superintendent Vic Grimsley told the board this week that the Illinois State Board of Education had given the school its Academic Excellence Award.

Rantoul considers fewer liquor licenses

RANTOUL — Village trustees must decide at Tuesday's monthly meeting whether eight is too much.

The board will mull a liquor advisory committee recommendation to reduce from eight to seven the number of Class A liquor licenses.

The license became available when Hot Headz Bar & Grill, 108 N. Garrard St., closed earlier this year.

Work on Rantoul plant progressing inside now

RANTOUL — With the shell up on the Easton-Bell Sports plant west of Rantoul, work is progressing on the interior.

Village Inspector Dan Culkin told the village board at its February study session this week that the steel work inside the building is "three-fourths of the way done."

"It's interesting when you stand on the east end and look west, it's a lot of steel," Culkin said.

Ludlow to ask residents to tend their property

LUDLOW — Residents can expect to receive letters from the village asking them to be mindful of the condition of their property and animals running loose.
