CHARLESTON — The Embarras Valley Film Festival starting on Saturday will honor Academy Award-winning actor Gene Hackman, who grew up in Danville.

President: EIU could handle phased-in retirement costs

SPRINGFIELD — Eastern Illinois University President William Perry said Wednesday he thinks the school could assume employee retirement costs, provided the move is made gradually.

State legislators and members of the Quinn administration have suggested that universities and school districts pick up the pension obligations of their employees, rather than the state.

EIU police seek help solving vandalism

CHARLESTON — The Eastern Illinois Police Department needs help finding whoever vandalized the Physical Science Building on Fourth Street in Charleston.

According to a police report, damage was discovered in some chemistry labs in the building early Friday afternoon.

No serious injuries as mass return of students produces 13 accidents

ASHKUM -- Illinois State Police say the mass return of students on Sunday following the Thanksgiving holiday produced more than a dozen accidents on Interstate 57 north of Champaign County.
