Confessions of a lapsed runner (and blogger)

I have a confession to make: I am a slug.

Not that I don't work hard (most weeks, anyway). In fact, my job has kept me so busy these past few months (investigations, confrontations, resignations) that I haven't really had much time to blog.

Couple brings Illinois Marathon to wedding

When Erin Butler and Eric Bockelman meet at the altar today (Saturday), they will be one fit wedding couple.

The bride and groom run marathons together, and do triathlons. And the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon holds a special place in their hearts.

The two got engaged at the finish line after running the marathon together in 2010.

Marathon organizers look for ways to improve

Not even a week after the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon, the race directors are already considering how to make the event better next year.

Reflecting on last weekend's races, marathon co-directors Jan Seeley and Mike Lindemann were pleased with many aspects of the race and identified several areas in which they hope to improve.

Feedback from runners overwhelmingly positive

The organizers of the Christie Clinic Illinois Marathon have received more than 700 comments from runners on their website, and several hundred more on the event's Facebook page, and they are overwhelmingly positive.

There is much more feedback so far than race organizers received last year, said Joe Seeley, the event's webmaster and a member of the race committee.

URBANA — Melissa Filbey Pillari was in a running clothes store in November when she overheard a guy talking about a flat course in Illinois that runners could use to qualify for the Boston Marathon.

"Being nosy, I asked where," said Pillari, 61, of Bay Village, Ohio, near Cleveland.

When the Urbana native looked up the Illinois Marathon online and discovered the route went past the home where she grew up, she began training in earnest.
