Weekend Wrap — Several recruits, targets still playing

Every week during the prep basketball season, IlliniHQ will give a wrap-up of how Illini commits and targets fared during the previous weekend's games. Here are a few notes from the week that was.

Class of 2014 priorities for Beckman

Illinois football coach Tim Beckman and his staff get the first chance to see what incoming recruits in the Class of 2013 can do on the field since spring practice starts Tuesday afternoon.

Tuesdays are big days for Michael Finke.

For obvious reasons, the Champaign Centennial (Ill.) High School big man usually has a game for the Chargers.

Like last night when he scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds during Centennial's 58-44 win against Rantoul (Ill.) High School during a Class 3A Centennial Regional semifinal game.

Justin Jackson has already played on the Memorial Stadium turf in Champaign.

Whether he does so after he graduates from Glenbard North (Ill.) High School will likely play out in the next nine months.

Illinois and the McDonald's All-American game

For the third straight year, an Illinois men's basketball recruit will not play in the McDonald's All-American game.

The prestigious high school boys basketball game will take place at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3, at Chicago's United Center. The game will be televised on ESPN.

Mennig: Winning certainly helps Bollant's recruiting

The 15 wins the Illinois women's basketball team has compiled this year is four more than last year.

And Illinois still has four regular season games to go under first-year head coach Matt Bollant before the Big Ten Tournament arrives March 7-10 at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates.
