Airline merger could bring new routes to Willard

Even though he said there is still much left to be decided, the head of Willard airport in Savoy said the merger of American Airlines and U.S. Airways could help the local airport.  Currently, American Eagle, which operates regional jets for American Airlines, serves Willard.

SPRINGFIELD — Willard Airport and the Vermilion Regional Airport are in for improvements under the state's 2013 state-local airport improvement program.

SAVOY — Willard Airport in Savoy and Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington are working separately to get air service to the Washington, D.C., area.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded $500,000 to each of them to help further those efforts.

New screening procedures coming to Willard Airport

     If you're flying out of Willard Airport in Savoy, you'll soon have the option of going through a different security screening procedure.

CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign County Economic Development Corp. is preparing to seek a successor to its chief executive officer, John Dimit.

Plans call for advertising the position in April, reviewing applications and interviewing candidates in May and recommending a successor in June, said Gary Burgett, chairman of the economic development group's board of directors.

Flightstar acquires Bloomington firm

SAVOY — Flightstar Corp. has acquired the assets of Bloomington Avionics and transferred its five employees to Flightstar's facility at Willard Airport.

Bloomington Avionics had operated at Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington for more than 30 years. It had a full-service avionics repair station there specializing in high-performance single- and twin-engine aircraft.

Few people take advantage of Vision Airlines deal at Willard

     Friday is the last day that Vision Airlines will offer non-stop, lower fair air service to Florida through Willard Airport.

     And so far,  the number of people who have taken advantage of the deal isn't as high as officials had hoped.
