Illini Union exhibit opens Friday

URBANA — The Illini Union Art Gallery will present the exhibition, "So Many Beasts of Burden," with the opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

The exhibit examines how animals help shape cultural values and our relationship with our surrounding environment and analyzes the roles animals play beyond those that are common such as pets, labor or service.

New date set for Race Street arts festival

URBANA — The Race Street Bash, which was to have taken place during the Memorial Day weekend but was postponed due to the weather, is set for 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday outside the Community Center for the Arts, 103 N. Race St.

The event will celebrate the performing arts, with hands-on workshops, an Electric Try-It Tent, KidZone, arts and crafts, and more.

National printmaking champion first won central Illinois competition

CHAMPAIGN — The winner of the National Visual Arts Competition in printmaking sponsored by the National Society of Arts and Letters first won at the regional level, in the competition sponsored by the central Illinois chapter.

Douglas Bosley, 29, of Madison, Wis., won first place in the national competition at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. He will receive a $15,000 prize.

Race Street arts festival postponed

URBANA — The Community Center for the Arts has postponed its second annual Race Street Bash, a street arts festival, which had been scheduled for Sunday, because of the threat of thunderstorms.

No new date has been set yet.
