Candidates' forum scheduled for Tuesday at DACC

DANVILLE – A candidates' forum is planned for 7 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 19)  in the Bremer Conference Center at Danville Area Community College, 2000 E. Main St.

Potomac to flush water system

POTOMAC – The village of Potomac will conduct hydrant flushing from Tuesday through Thursday.

The process is part of the regular maintenance of the village's water system.

Water may be discolored during the process, but is fit to drink and does not have to be boiled, according to village officials.

Champaign County Nursing Home hits financial skid

URBANA – After a series of months in the black, finances at the Champaign County Nursing Home have taken a turn for the worse.

But the facility is still about $100,000 ahead for the year, the county nursing home board of directors learned Monday night.

UI scientist offering leaflet on identifying ash borer

URBANA – After the recent infestation of the emerald ash borer in trees in Rantoul, University of Illinois entomologist Jim Appleby is offering a four-page color leaflet that can help homeowners identify the pest and the telltale D-shaped holes it leaves when it exits an infested tree.

The leaflet includes close-up photos that help people know what to look for.

Family Service Senior Resource Center wins state award

CHAMPAIGN – A program that helps seniors – or anyone with a chronic medical condition – take charge of their health has won a state award from the Illinois Department on Aging.

The Family Service Senior Resource Center in Champaign received one of six 2010 Governor's Awards for Unique Achievement this month for its healthy-aging program.

Timeline set for FutureGen storage site search

SPRINGFIELD – The clock soon will start quickly ticking for Illinois communities interested in becoming the underground storage site for carbon dioxide from the revised FutureGen 2.0 power plant.

The FutureGen Alliance, a partnership of coal companies and utilities, announced Friday that a request for site proposals would be released no later than Oct. 25.

Economic groups likely to continue sharing space

CHAMPAIGN – It's likely Champaign County's chamber of commerce, convention and visitors bureau and economic development group will continue to "co-habitate."

The three groups, which share space at Illini Plaza, 1817 S. Neil St., C, had talked about going separate ways when their lease expires June 30.
