Lacys putting barbecue business under a roof

URBANA — Marvin Lacy and Beverly Jackson-Lacy hope to open Lacy's Famous Kansas City-Style BBQ in downtown Urbana by early next year.

The Lacys are no strangers to the business, having sold barbecue from tents at various locations in Champaign the last four summers.

Now they'll have an actual restaurant at 119 W. Main St., U, just west of Crane Alley.

"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us." John 1:8-10

Meg Makes: Decadent treats can be presents, too

We're well into the holiday season. If you haven't had time to make any treats, I have truffle recipes for you that are both easy and delicious.

The first is from my grandma, Bobbie Thilmony of Loda, and I found it when raiding her recipe box earlier this fall.

To Your Health: Nothing in nutrition is black and white

By Leia Kedem

Have you ever gotten an email, text or letter that made you go, "Wow, what is her problem?" In text, short sentences and using lots of periods can convey curtness. In person, the same message is tempered by facial expressions, gestures and tone of voice. The written word is tricky — so much can be lost in translation.

Meg Makes: Softening up ginger snaps' edges

Nothing makes me happier this time of year than baking cookies. Today, I'm featuring a tried-and-true recipe that's a variation on a seasonal favorite.

Carol Timms of Champaign, who gave me this recipe, calls these "a lovely, soft version of ginger snaps."

Ginger Bends

1-1/2 cup sugar, divided

3/4 cup butter

"Owe no man anything, but to love one another; for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet, And if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying: Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself." Romans 13:8-9

Meg Makes: A duo of Grandma's holiday classics

I was recently digging through recipes from my grandma, Bobbie Thilmony of Loda, and found some of my favorite holiday treats.

These are both nice alternatives to cookies — the Payday Candy Squares are especially a favorite this time of year. You make them in the microwave, which I see as an added bonus.
