I'm into my second week of recipes featuring fresh peaches. It's summer, so I think that we should use them while we have them.
This peach pie is easy to make, and is incredibly pretty.
Single pie crust
1/2 cup of your favorite chopped nuts
1 cup sugar (if you like a more tart pie, use 1/2 cup)
NORTHFIELD — Check your cheese before you make your next sandwich.
Kraft is voluntarily recalling 36,000 cases of American and White American individually-wrapped Singles cheese slices over a choking hazard, the company said.
PAXTON — The fourth annual Paxton Swine 'N Dine BBQ Cookoff & Festival has been set for Sept. 19, in downtown Paxton.
The event will feature barbecue cookoffs in two categories: ribs and chicken.
Summer eating season is well underway. My family members' trees are bearing both peaches and apples, which provide two excellent reasons to spend an afternoon baking with friends.
We made a delicious, light shortbread cake with a peach-basil compote. It's based on a recipe from Cooking Light, with a few changes.
"The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul. Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of a humble spirit with the lovely than to divide the spoil with the proud." Proverbs 16:17-19

RANTOUL — An estimated 240 people turned out for the first Rantoul farmers market of the season last week.
It kept the only vendor — the Rantoul Township High School FFA chapter — busy selling sweet corn, cabbage, cucumbers, green beans and tomatoes.
"Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient." 2 Timothy 2:22-24
