Meg Makes: Barbecue may have you pigging out

We recently bought half a hog, so our freezer is stocked with great cuts of pork just in time for barbecue season.

I'm all for easy recipes that don't take tons of prep time, and this pulled-pork barbecue qualifies. If you want it to be even tangier, substitute orange juice for the water.

My Amish Home: No more wedding; time for more weeding

"He that saith 'I know him' and keepeth not his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected; hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk even as he walked." 1 John 2:4-6

Meeting 'all sorts of needs' one at a time

RANTOUL — In Karen Kelly's 28 years working at the Community Service Center of Northern Champaign County, she has seen thousands of people walk into the agency needing food from the pantry — just one of the many services offered there.

But she remembers one man specifically, because he still drops by to thank them for their help.

It's more than a meal

CHARLESTON — It's a hot meal in the middle of the day, a familiar face at the door and a welfare check for older adults in 14 counties lacking the ability to get out of the house or fix a meal on their own.

How's all that for putting $10,000 of the donations made to the United Way of Champaign County to use?
