Bob Swisher: We will return to Gordyville in 2016

For those readers who took from my column on Gordyville that I was unhappy and probably would not return to the show next year, fear not, we will be there.

I will try to be more precise and less tongue-in-cheek in future columns.

Redevelopment of Champaign's Bristol Place 'right on target'

CHAMPAIGN — Boarded-up windows and vacant lots are becoming a sign of progress in the Bristol Place neighborhood in north Champaign.

The city, which basically condemned Bristol Place in 2012 when it decided to demolish and redevelop the 144-acre neighborhood, has now acquired 32 of 91 properties, demolished 14 and entered agreements to buy another 30.

Bob Swisher: Highlights from return trip to Atlanta

It is hard to believe that Christmas is just a few days away. The weather is certainly not like most Decembers.

Following the Gordyville Antique Show on the first weekend in December, we took the fog with us as we drove to Atlanta, Ga., for the second weekend show at the Scott Antique Market at the Expo Center.

CHAMPAIGN — The bad news: Year-over-year home sales in November were down in the Champaign County area.

The good: The median price of those homes was up.

CHAMPAIGN — The century-old house at 509 S. Elm St. is definitely going down — preservationists are salvaging trim today — and an apartment house is definitely going up.

Nothing will change that.

Danville Housing Authority evicts 10-year director, plots new direction

DANVILLE — The 10-year director of the Danville Housing Authority was placed on administrative leave by the board on Tuesday, and a search has already been launched for a replacement to take the city’s public housing in a new direction.
