Rose introduces bill to protect homeowners near retention ponds

SPRINGFIELD — Legislation that could prevent people with the wrong intentions from buying retention ponds in Illinois subdivisions was introduced this week in the Illinois Legislature by state Sen. Chapin Rose, R-Mahomet.

Unit 4 board rejects group's second, higher offer for Burnham mansion

CHAMPAIGN — A group hoping to buy the 134-year-old Burnham mansion from the Champaign school district said its second bid has been rejected.

Carolyn Baxley, who launched Friends of Burnham Mansion, said the group raised its first offer of $389,618 for the house at 603 W. Church St., C, made last month, to $450,000.

Urbana mayor sticking with rejected nominee for housing authority board

URBANA — On Monday night, Mayor Diane Marlin refused to comply with the Housing Authority of Champaign County, which rejected her appointment to its board, and urged the group to improve its transparency.

In addition, the appointee — Cunningham Township Supervisor Danielle Chynoweth — said the housing authority is misrepresenting the reason behind her rejection.

DANVILLE — The manager of an assisted-living facility wants Danville city officials to know that another proposed assisted-living project would have a competitive advantage in an already saturated market if developers get requested tax breaks.

Urbana mayor reviewing housing authority pick after rejection

URBANA — After the Housing Authority of Champaign County said it won't accept Diane Marlin's appointee to its board, the Urbana mayor said she won't immediately withdraw the appointment.

Marlin's nominee, Cunningham Township Supervisor Danielle Chynoweth, received city council approval Dec. 18. Her term was set to end in fall 2021, according to the appointment letter.
