CHAMPAIGN — Car damaged by a pothole? Don't count on the city to pay for repairs.
As winter takes its yearly toll on city roads and residents' rides get bumpier, drivers would be well-advised to keep a lookout for holes in the road. If you bust a tire or knock your wheels out of alignment, there's about a 5 percent chance the city is going to take responsibility for it.
CHAMPAIGN — Winter wreaks havoc on city streets, and last week's weather was pretty extreme.
That could mean some serious potholes popping up and making for bumpy rides throughout Champaign-Urbana. It will eventually become the source of quite a bit of work for local public works departments and the state of Illinois.
CHAMPAIGN — The removal and replacement of sign trusses on Interstate 74 between I-57 in Champaign and Cunningham Avenue in Urbana is set to resume Sunday, having been delayed due to the recent bad weather.
CHAMPAIGN — To facilitate the delivery of a window wall system at 519 E. Green St., in Champaign, Broeren Russo Construction will close Sixth Street between Green and John streets on Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting.
URBANA — While actual repairs may still be a long way off, the state will come through with money to help redesign crumbling Windsor Road.
PARIS — The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that portions of Interstate 74, between I-57 west of Champaign and U.S. 45 in Urbana, will be closed at various locations the rest of the month for removal and replacement of sign trusses.
Weather permitting, lane closures will happen between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning.
CHAMPAIGN — There's something strange about the streets of Campustown this week.
They're quiet. They're fairly empty. You can drive the speed limit without playing dodge-the-pedestrian.
With University of Illinois classes out until Dec. 2, most students left Friday for a week of holiday celebrating.
URBANA — A public hearing on a proposed $7 million highway improvement project to the Dewey-Fisher Road has been scheduled for Nov. 20.
The informational meeting will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Champaign County Highway Department building, 1605 E. Main St., U.
URBANA — Main Street resident David Kraft is going to have trouble sleeping this week as construction crews repave several streets in downtown Urbana.
Kraft's complaint is that the city seems to be violating its own noise ordinance, but no one seems interested in enforcing it.
