MAHOMET — A project to repair the streets in Mahomet's downtown business district is set to get underway early this summer.

The village trustees approved an $83,450 bid for the project. Cross Construction, which also handled last year's Division Street resurfacing, was the low bidder.

URBANA — City officials want to put traffic lights at Windsor Road and Race Street, and they'll ask the city council this week if they should move forward with the $205,000 project.

I-57/74 project bringing major detours

CHAMPAIGN — A $1.1 million project to improve the ramps at the interchange of Interstates 57 and 74, scheduled to start Tuesday, will mean some serious detours.

The work on ramps from I-74 to northbound I-57 will send drivers south and then back north. Similarly, the work on ramps from I-74 to southbound I-57 will send drivers north and then back south.

Philo may use loan program for street project

PHILO — The village board is eyeing a loan program to help pay for a project to improve downtown's main street.

The project slated for next year would involve milling and overlaying a section of Washington Street from Illinois 130 to Harrison Street at an estimated cost of $200,000.

Windsor Road work is subject of open house in Urbana today

URBANA — City officials will reveal their plans for Windsor Road during a public open house scheduled for today.

The project, which spans Windsor Road from Philo Road to Race Street, includes tearing out all of the concrete and repaving the entire road as a relatively rare chemical reaction in the existing material is causing the street to break down.

MTD seeks grant to rebuild roads

CHAMPAIGN — For the third time, the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District is seeking a federal grant to rebuild five major traffic corridors in central Champaign-Urbana.

"Hopefully the third time is the charm," MTD Managing Director Bill Volk told the district's board Wednesday.

Choices ahead for Paxton road work

PAXTON — Street superintendent Randy Swan told the city council that a wish list of streets to be improved and paved this summer would cost $295,000. The city will not spend that much. Instead, the aldermen will rely on Swan's advice to pick the streets that need work the most.

State funds to pay for widening of High Cross Road

The mayor of Urbana said nearly $8 million in funding from the state for a road project on the far east side of town is an important part of trying to develop the area.
