Work to close block of Second Street in Campustown

CHAMPAIGN — A block of Second Street in the campus area will be closed to through traffic for about a week starting Tuesday.

In order to install a sanitary sewer service connection at 112 E. Chalmers St., Mayfield Construction will close Second Street between Daniel and Chalmers streets.

Section of Kirby to close for two weeks for bridge repair

CHAMPAIGN — The Champaign Township Highway Department plans to close part of Kirby Avenue in west Champaign for almost two weeks.

Starting Monday, weather permitting, Kirby Avenue will be closed to all traffic between Holstrom Street and Cobblefield Road, near the Interstate 57 overpass.

Open house on Green Street improvements set for Wednesday

The public has a chance on Wednesday night to learn more about planned improvements to Green Street in Champaign.

An open house will be held at the Champaign Public Library from 4 to 6 p.m.

Green Street has already seen improvements from Wright to Fourth, and City Planner TJ Blakeman said officials are now looking at similar changes from Fourth to Neil.

Lake of the Woods bridge work to affect I-74

MAHOMET — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the bridge carrying Lake of the Woods Road over Interstate 74 will have new steel bridge beams erected beginning Tuesday night.

Windsor Road reopens in Urbana

URBANA — The assistant Urbana city engineer announced Friday afternoon that all lanes of Windsor Road between Race Street and Philo Road are now open to traffic.

Work crews will be patching potholes continually on this section of Windsor Road to keep the road open until the pavement can be permanently reconstructed starting this summer.
