LOS ANGELES — Brand familiarity isn't everything when it comes to attracting audiences to the multiplex, and Hollywood is learning that lesson the hard way this summer with a slew of underperforming sequels and reboots. That so-called franchise fatigue came to a head this weekend with the releases of "Men in Black: International" and "Shaft."

CHICAGO (AP) — A year ago, filmmaker Richard Rowley was able to sell to the cable network Showtime a documentary about the 2014 fatal shooting of Chicago teenager Laquan McDonald by police officer Jason Van Dyke.

UI grad's remarkable 'Jeopardy' winning streak comes to an end

CHAMPAIGN — After 33 games and average daily winnings of $77,000, James Holzhauer's remarkable "Jeopardy" winning streak came to an end Monday.

The University of Illinois math graduate finished $58,484 shy of Ken Jennings' record total of $2.52 million, though Jennings took more than twice as many games — 74 — to amass that.

Local CW affiliate blacked out on DirecTV because of contract dispute

DECATUR — Television viewers who subscribe to DirecTV won't be able to watch "Supernatural," "The Flash," "Supergirl" or other CW programs for the indefinite future.

Decatur-based WBUI-TV confirmed the station was no longer being carried on AT&T-owned DirecTV as of 7 p.m. Thursday, as the result of an impasse in negotiations between the station's owner and AT&T.
