Cold snap, cancellations meant road trip for Illini fan

MINNEAPOLIS — Casey Schuermann always takes a look at the Illini men's basketball schedule in case he can make a road trip to catch the team in person.

Last month, the lifelong fan traveled from his Forest City, Iowa, home to Lincoln, Neb., for the team's Big Ten opener.

UPDATED: Winter weather advisory extended to more counties

The National Weather Service has extended the winter weather advisory to more counties in East Central Illinois.

The advisory now includes Champaign, DeWitt, Macon, Piatt, and Vermilion counties. It will be in effect until 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Winter storm warning issued

A winter storm warning will be in effect for a part of East Central Illinois on Saturday.

The National Weather Service said heavy snowfall is expected in Champaign, Macon, Piatt and Vermilion counties. DeWitt County is under the same warning from 6 p.m. today to 6 p.m. Saturday. A total of 4 to 6 inches of snow is possible and winds are also expected to gust around 35 miles per hour.

Willard Airport director leaving for similar job in Tennessee

SAVOY — After being named a finalist for the position earlier this month, Willard Airport Executive Director Gene Cossey has accepted an offer to fill an identical job at the Tri-Cities Airport in northeastern Tennessee.

He announced his resignation Wednesday from the University of Illinois-owned airport.

UPDATED: Dense fog advisory extended

8:45 a.m. Update

The National Weather Service has extended the dense fog advisory until noon today for most of East Central Illinois.

The advisory includes Champaign, Coles, DeWitt, Douglas, Edgar, Macon, Moultrie, Piatt, Shelby, and Vermilion counties.

Meanwhile, Ford and Iroquois counties remain under a dense fog advisory only until 9 this morning.
