— Zoo Run Run

This 5K is Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Peoria Zoo. The event also includes a 1-mile walk and a ¼-mile youth run for children ages 12 and under. The race supports the zoo, and participants get admission to the zoo for the day. Here’s a link for more information.

— Run United Oakwood 5K

This race is the evening of Saturday, Aug. 24, in conjunction with the Oakwood Street Festival in Decatur. Proceeds benefit the United Way of Decatur & Mid-Illinois and the Oakwood Business Association. Here’s a link for more information.

— Overdose Awareness 5K

Friday, Aug. 30:

— Peoria Beer Mile

This beer mile race is Friday, Aug. 30, at Bearded Owl Brewing Co. in Peoria. Participants drink one beer in an exchange zone before they begin each quarter-mile lap of the race. This year, the race is doing a trial Root Beer Mile. All runners (even those in the Root Beer Mile) must be at least 21 years of age. Here’s a link for more information.

Labor Day Weekend, Aug. 31-Sept. 2:

— Hoopeston Sweetcorn 5K

This race is Saturday, Aug. 31, in Hoopeston, in conjunction with the Hoopeston Sweetcorn Festival. In addition to the 5K race, there’s a 1-mile fun run. Here’s a link with more information.

— Serve to Strengthen

This race is Saturday, Aug. 31, at Lake Land College in Mattoon. There are 5K and 10K races, as well as a 1-mile walk. The event supports HOPE of East Central Illinois, an organization providing services for battered women and their families. Here’s a link for more information.

— Rat Race

This Labor Day race on Monday, Sept. 2, in Arthur includes 10K and 5K races, a 1-mile fun run, a 5K recreational walk and a Cheese Chasers kids fun run. The race proceeds go to continuing education scholarships for seniors in the Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond school district. Here’s a link for more information.

— Bridge to Bridge Run

This 4-mile race is Monday, Sept. 2, starting in Peoria. Runners cross the Illinois River over the Bob Michel Bridge into East Peoria, run through East Peoria, then return to Peoria over the Cedar Street Bridge. Runners who completed the 4-mile or 15K run at the Steamboat Classic in June and who run this race will receive a 2x4 Challenge or 2x4+ Challenge award. Here’s a link for more information.
