Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity will present Applehood and Motherpie: An  American Musicale and Party on Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Champaign First United Methodist Church, 210 W. Church St., Champaign.

The Sigma Alpha Iota Urbana Alumnae Chapter will celebrate American Music Month with a concert of music compositions by American composers.

The event features local musicians from well-known local music organizations including Amasong, the Choral Union, The Conservatory of Central Illinois, Tuesday Morning Musical Club, the Urbana Pops Orchestra and the Community Center for the Arts. The program will be followed by an Apple-themed Party for all in attendance. The event is free to the public.

Sigma Alpha Iota is an International Music Fraternity formed to “uphold the highest standards of music” and “to further the development of music in America and throughout the world.” It continues to provide musical and educational resources to its members and the general public. The Urbana Alumnae Chapter, chartered on March 12, 1949, is one of over 220 active collegiate chapters and 114 alumnae chapters. Distinguished members of the chapter include honorary and distinguished members Reid Alexander, Daniel Perrino, Marian McPartland, Nathan Gunn and Ollie Watts Davis.
