In 1919, Royal Stipes defeated C.D. Brownell 572 to 345 in the election for president of the Champaign school board. Voters also approved a bond issue to pay for an addition to Dr. Howard School.

In 1969, Loren Tate reported the University of Illinois regained "all rights and privileges" from the NCAA membership at its meeting in Fort Lauderdale. Illinois was to have its probationary status lifted on May 7, exactly two years after Illinois was ruled ineligible for the Rose Bowl, post-season basketball competition and NCAA television appearances in football.

In 2004, Gary Adams, who has served as Rantoul's village administrator since 1997, made his departure from northern Champaign County official when he signed a three-year contract to become the new administrator of Hernando County, Fla.
