In 1919, the school of education at the University of Illinois was renamed the College of Education. For the first time, the discipline teaching received the same emphasis at the university as agriculture, engineering, commerce, medicine and law.

In 1969, the Urbana City Council voted to annex the Dr. Ellis subdivision bounded by Bradley Avenue to the north, the Champaign city limites to the west, Eureka Street to the south and Goodwin Avenue to the east.

In 2004, a Champaign County judge Tuesday declared a mistrial in the case of a Rankin man accused of cannabis trafficking after a police officer testified the defendant confessed, but admitted he hadn't written that in his report.
