BATESTOWN — Officials are investigating a fire that took the life of a Batestown woman early Monday morning.

Vermilion County Coroner Jane McFadden said Wanda J. White, 70, of unincorporated Batesman, just west of Danville, was killed in the fire at her mobile home at 23 Bates Dr.

Mrs. White's husband, Ron, a long-distance trucker, was out of town when the fire broke out.

Kickapoo firefighters were called to a fire around 5:30 a.m., said assistant chief James Snyder. When they arrived, flames were coming from the one-story mobile home, which had an addition.

James Synder, assistant chief of the Kickapoo Fire Protection District said the fire is not suspicious.

But "at this time, it's still under investigation," Snyder said, adding the Illinois State Fire Marshal's office is looking into the cause.

Kickapoo firefighters were assisted by crews from Oakwood, Fithian-Muncie-Collison, Catlin, Sidell, Westville, Bismark and Georgetown.
