CHAMPAIGN — You can now walk around with alcoholic beverages during "Friday Night Live" all summer long.

Mayor Deb Feinen, who also serves as liquor commissioner, announced Monday that because of the success of the city's Downtown Festival District in two trial runs this year, the decision was made to extend the designation for the Friday events through Aug. 23.

Customers of downtown restaurants and bars will be able to walk with their drinks within the boundaries of the district as long as they're wearing an official wristband.

The district will only be in place from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday evenings.
