CHAMPAIGN — Korean coffee shop Caffe Bene will open a second store in Champaign-Urbana as a first-floor tenant in the Campus Center project being built near Sixth and Green streets in Champaign.

The shop already has a location in Gregory Place East in Urbana, at the northeast corner of Gregory and Nevada streets.

The new store, at 524 E. Green St., C, will occupy more than 3,000 square feet of the Campus Center project, being built on the site of Parking Lot J. The store is expected to open in the summer of 2015, according to a release from JSM Development, developer of Campus Center.

The center will include two six-story towers containing a 95-room Marriott TownePlace Suites hotel, 88 apartments, more than 11,000 square feet of retail space and a four-story parking deck with 176 spaces.

Jill Guth, director of commercial leasing and marketing for JSM, said Caffe Bene should fit in well.

"This high-end, European-style coffeehouse replicates a library-inspired design that will complement the Marriott TownePlace Suites hotel and other surrounding retail," she stated in a release.

Caffe Bene is Korea's largest coffee franchise, surpassing Starbucks in South Korea. Concentrated in its home market, Caffe Bene has more than 1,300 cafes globally, with 283 in China, 87 in the United States and five in the Philippines. The new Campus Center location will be Caffe Bene's third location in Illinois.
