DANVILLE — Authorities have identified the first victim in Wednesday evening’s double fatal shooting in Danville.
Vermilion County Coroner Peggy Johnson said 27-year-old Hank Hamiliton, a county resident, was pronounced dead at Presence United Samaritan Medical Center’s emergency room at 5:49 p.m. An autopsy showed his cause of death was mulitple gunshot wounds.
Earlier this morning, Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup identified the second victim as 20-year-old Michael Albert Trotter Jr., of Danville. Mr. Trotter was initially taken to the Danville hospital and then transferred to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where he was pronounced dead at 8:06 p.m. on Wednesday.
Northrup said he died as a result of gunshot wounds he received in shooting.
The shooting occurred about 5:45 p.m. near Griffin and Main streets, Danville Public Safety Director Larry Thomason said, adding there are no suspects at this time.
"Police received a call of shots fired in that area," he said.
Thomason said two cars were reported speeding away from the shooting scene. Shortly after police arrived, they were notified by Presence officials that two people had been dropped off at the hospital by private carrier.
Thomason said police have collected information from the scene and are now interviewing several witnesses and others.
"We're obviously asking anyone who saw or heard anything or have any information to contact the Danville police," he said.
