FITHIAN — The village of Fithian is holding a gun raffle to raise money for new playground equipment at Brentlinger Memorial Park.

Tickets are $20 apiece and are available at The Hideaway Slots, 101 N. Jefferson St., Fithian, and BFF Firearms, 50 S. College St., Danville.

The first-place prize is a Palmetto PA-15 rifle or cash, second-place is a Sig Sauer P365 handgun and third-place is $100. There will only be 600 tickets sold.

The drawing will be held at 5 p.m. Sept. 2 at The Hideaway Slots. People do not need to be present to win.

Lisa Powell, Fithian's parks trustee, said the existing playground equipment, including a metal swing set and slide, is outdated. Officials are looking at replacing it with colorful, modern equipment that will include a handicap-accessible apparatus.

The project is estimated to cost $54,000, Powell said. She added that the village is raising half of that amount and will apply for grants to obtain the other half.

Powell said the project is latest in a number of improvements the village has made at the park including resurfacing the basketball court, adding a pavilion and picnic tables and replacing the park's sign. It also replaced 52 trees that line the north side of U.S. 150 on the way into town.
