Q: When is the University of Illinois going to hire a new executive director fpr Willard Airport?

A: It should be soon, UI spokeswoman Robin Kaler said.

"Candidates have been interviewed, so we are hopeful to wrap up the search within the next couple of weeks," she said in an email.

The previous executive director, Gene Cossey, left in February to begin a similar job at an airport in northeastern Tennessee.

He had been the executive director at Willard for a little over three years and implemented several changes outlined by a task force to improve operations at the airport.

He added flights from United Airlines, lost them a year later, added an American Airlines flight to Charlotte and raised the parking rate as it moved to a new automated system.

Since he left, the assistant director of operations since February 2018, Tim Bannon, has been serving as the interim executive director.
